Watching porn and feminist attitudes

The recent publication of a study that seeks to demonstrate the watching porn does not make men anti-female is the first shot in a long battle to legitimize male sexuality.  Eventually it may lead to the legitimization of males, as such.

The research found:

He and his colleagues analyzed data from 35 years of the General Social Survey, a government-funded U.S. project that interviews about 24,000 men and women a year on a variety of issues.

They reported in the Journal of Sex Research that the 23 per cent who reported having watched an “X-rated” movie in the previous year were no more or less likely than porn abstainers to identify as feminists, or voice support for the traditional family.

And the blue-movie watchers expressed on average more positive attitudes toward women in positions of power, and less negative attitudes toward abortion and women in the workforce than those who refrained from pornography.

And in the same article:

Meanwhile, indicators of male aggression like rape and domestic violence have been decreasing through the Internet era, said Christopher Ferguson, a psychology professor at Texas A&M International University who tracks the effect of media on behavior.

“Any tiny effect that (porn) is having is being washed out by a lot of other, more important things,” he said. “I think if porn were going to ruin society, it’s already had 20 years to do it … And it’s not happened.”

The Supreme Court of Canada was the avid consumer of bad social science when it ruled that the harm of pornography was the attitudes it engendered in its users.

Men have been taking it in the ear for 40 years: how they sit (“manspreading”), how they think, how they resolve issues, how they cooperate (old boys clubs), what they eat and drink: their every action and their very being have been held up to ridicule, and if they protest they are accused of defending “privilege”. What privilege, may I ask?

Men are competitive and cooperative, hierarchical and egalitarian. Sometimes all four at once. But however we do stuff, a legion of harridans has been excoriating us for being what we are.

Have you seen a television advertisement in fifty years that shows women as being weaker than men, less informed, more emotionally vapid, more flighty, less decisive, more stubborn, or just plain wrong?

The anti-male bias of social science is but an aspect of the more generally anti-biological view of life of the political Left. If nothing is biological, then everything is a matter of social arrangements, and given the application of enough power, they can be changed to conform to some zealot’s narrow views. Viz Lenin, viz Andrea Dworkin.

The truths of biology have been ignored and shouted down for decades, in the interests of trying to make everyone conform to some social vision of the Left: intelligence differences among people and among tribes, nations and races; strength and endurance differences between sexes. If it is biological in origin, it is wrong, false and illegal to point out its existence.

For whatever reasons, and they are deeply rooted in our sexual reproduction, men are more highly sexually charged than women, and if you do not like that expression of our differences, then try another. Quicker to lust, more visually stimulated, and more adventurous. I need not rehearse the entirety of human sexuality literature here.

Porn provides a convenient stimulation and outlet for lusts that would be inappropriate, and often wrong,  to act upon in society. Indeed, wrong to act upon except in the privacy of one’s home. But just because sex is carried on in private – by an ancient and generally accepted norm of our species – does not mean that it should not be carried on at all. Nothing needs to be done to change this fact of life. Our general level of repression of porn is correctly targeted to eliminate the exploitation of children. Nothing more needs to be done.

Human sexuality is a continuous source of embarrassment, and some seek to channel that embarrassment into repression, and thereby gain power over us. (Kind of like breathing and CO2 hysteria – but that is another issue).

If the basis of civilization is clean drinking water, the concomitant is safely recycling our bodily wastes. We call them sewerage systems. We have enormous public investment in dealing with shit.

Yet when it comes to mankind’s sexuality, we seem to continue to gasp in horror at our own proclivities, and seek to deal with matters of sex like people who do not know how we come to be here.

Back in the late 90’s in Vancouver, there were a few guys who decided to make amateur cheap gonzo porn so they ran an ad in the paper seeking inspiring actresses at least 18 years old. There was a huge response and that was increased by word-of-mouth that saw young women come from as far away as Halifax Newfoundland. The women only got paid a few hundred bucks at most. Some even did it for free because they wanted the camera time in hopes of being famous. The three men involved were charged for producing indecent material but were latter found not guilty. It was a land mark case of some sort but I remember the feminists screaming that there was no justice for the women involved. The court apparently agreed that it was not indecency and that the women fully and willing participated. The three men involved are now retired casue they made millions of it and they still make royalties years latter.
