Marc Emery plans to campaign for Justin Trudeau. This is going to be big.
Marc Emery has spent more than 4 years four months in a US jail for the distribution of marihuana seeds into the United States from Canada. He is an intelligent advocate and his followers are smart, political, well-organized, well-connected, and most of all, they represent an inevitable social change.
Why do I think Emery and the pot issue will be a big factor in the coming election? Because the marihuana legalization issue cuts across all social and class lines, because we have lived in a ridiculous anti-marihuana regime for decades, which police are loathe to enforce, because large numbers of otherwise law-abiding Canadians of all political opinions smoke dope, are familiar with its risks, and think that criminalization is a dumb way to control it.
Legalization of marihuana might be the one issue that gets me to vote federal Liberal for the first time in my life. I bet there are a number of sensible conservative people who think as I do: that the time has come to end a failed policy of Prohibition.
What about you? Time to end this nonsense? Prime Minister Harper had better adapt to this change, else he will end up like Dief supporting the Old Red Ensign: defeated.
