My idea of hell

Do you recall Donald Sutherland at the end of the second pod-people movie, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, where he has been transformed into a soulless zombie by the aliens? No more anxiety, religion, joy, sorrow, pain, sin, redemption, ecstasy, hate, belonging, just an endless succession of days in a grey zone of nullity.

Says Wikipedia:

That night, Matthew and his friends are nearly duplicated by the pods while they sleep. The pod people try to raid Matthew’s house, but the humans are able to slip away. During this, they discover that the pod people emit a shrill scream once they learn someone is still human among them.

Now remember that movie and listen to John Lennon’s lyrics to “Imagine”.

To be in hell is to be in the land where John Lennon’s lyrics have come true. I want to scream. Welcome the land of the pod people. Welcome to hell.

Just reading about the gulags in North Korea. Now that is my idea of hell. I wish that stupid basketball player who went there got a taste of it. You don’t see him being banned from the NBA for his shameful sucking up to a monstrous dictator.
