The looming crisis in human genetics

Geoffrey Miller wrote:

“The trouble is, the resequencing data will reveal much more about human evolutionary history and ethnic differences than they will about disease genes.”

“We will also identify the many genes that create physical and mental differences across populations, and we will be able to estimate when those genes arose. Some of those differences probably occurred very recently, within recorded history. Gregory Cochran and Henry Harpending argued in “The 10,000 Year Explosion” that some human groups experienced a vastly accelerated rate of evolutionary change within the past few thousand years, benefiting from the new genetic diversity created within far larger populations, and in response to the new survival, social and reproductive challenges of agriculture, cities, divisions of labour and social classes. Others did not experience these changes until the past few hundred years when they were subject to contact, colonisation and, all too often, extermination.

“If the shift from GWAS to sequencing studies finds evidence of such politically awkward and morally perplexing facts, we can expect the usual range of ideological reactions, including nationalistic retro-racism from conservatives and outraged denial from blank-slate liberals. The few who really understand the genetics will gain a more enlightened, live-and-let-live recognition of the biodiversity within our extraordinary species—including a clearer view of likely comparative advantages between the world’s different economies.”

The news will be as devastating  for blank-slaters as it has been for warmists.

Take heart, brethren. Sauron’s Empire is falling down. The Internet is the melting of Sauron’s One Ring. More falsity will be exposed as rubbish in the  next twenty years than the Left has been able to generate in the last hundred.

100% of men watch pornography: study shows

Science 3 Comments

By Dalwhinnie

The Daily Telgraph today published a study which asserted the obvious. University of Montreal researchers were unable to find men who did not watch pornography. Scientists will soon assert that the human species is highly sexed, that we do it for fun, and that we are unique in the animal world.

See Jared Diamond’s Why is Sex Fun?

See Geoffrey Miller’s The Mating Mind.

see Charles Darwin’s The Descent of Man

The human species has taken eating and turned it into cuisine.

We have taken reproduction and turned it into recreational sex.

And we have evolved because of better sex and better food.  So there!

Please defend Canada from its judiciary

Canadian Politics, Political Correctness 1 Comment

Please, Lord, defend us from our judiciary. Not because they are soft on crime, but for what motivates them to be soft on crime, which they attribute to “poverty”. The “roots of poverty” are a whole lot deeper than anything that can be fixed up by prison or social work. Only moral reformation can fix poverty. Blaming Canadian society, or white people, or whoever else is running North America, is a popular escape from the realities of the situation, not an insight into it. The real root of Indian poverty is the welfare state, which dissolves moral responsibility, ties to community, self-worth, and the family.

As Theodore Dalrymple observed:

“Poverty has been redefined in industrial countries, so that anyone at the lower end of the income distribution is poor ex officio, as it were—poor by virtue of having less than the rich. And of course by this logic, the only way of eliminating poverty is by an egalitarian redistribution of wealth—even if the society as a whole were to become poorer as a result.”

CBC TV on Climategate – a pack of lies

By Duggan's Dew of Kirkintilloch

Impossible to watch CBC coverage of Climategate last night without a shiver of disgust.  (Incredible that they did not humbly beg viewers’ forgiveness for lying by omission for two weeks.)  The story was framed as a hacker crime that yielded information to be gleaned for scraps and snippets that were then distorted as damning to the sacred cause of anthropogenic global warming.  It closed with some academic out west who talked about violence, office break-ins and hacking attempts, as if these alleged events were somehow part of the story.  In the middle of the story was some artfully minimized truth.  The report was so skilfully done as to constitute one long lie. This is a war but we lose if we fight it with our opponents’ weapons of deceit, untruth and fraud.
