Iggy and Rae go to Blockbuster
October 17, 2008 10:30 am Canadian PoliticsNow that the other clown shoe has dropped, one wonders if Grits will check out this movie rental.
According to the Globe:
The parliamentary caucus is about evenly divided in its support for Mr. Ignatieff and Mr. Rae, who came second and third, respectively, after Mr. Dion in 2006. But a significant chunk of MPs – so-called soft supporters of the two men – fear a party cleavage in an Ignatieff-Rae contest and would be open to a third candidate.
Second time’s the charm, huh?

Up until now, I thought the four scariest words in the English language were “Bob Rae, Finance Minister”
But Bob Rae, or for that matter Mikey Iggy, Prime Minister is much worse.

Prior to the election, I would have put money on Rae being the next Liberal leader — today, I wouldn’t put anything on it. Liberals took a leap of faith on a radically left wing leader (Dion) hoping to steal votes from NDP and Green. This backfired when they couldn’t take left wing votes and actually lost many on their right and centre flanks. Rae is yet another radical left wing individual and the Liberals would be downright foolish to not learn the lesson of the past few months. Ignatieff is a good possibility but McKenna would be the front runner from the moment he indicated he was interested. Rae’s hopes are all but dead and I don’t see him sticking around too long.
