For reasons I have not yet understood, the solution proposed for Internet governance by the Clinton administration was to push off the management of the Internet root to a private not for profit corporation called ICANN. ICANN is a Democratic creature, and Vint was the founding chairman of ICANN. Google hired Vint after his chairmanship. Google is likewise a Democrat-leaning organization. Republicans have theirs, I am sure. Thus it is no surprise that Cerf endorses Obama. Besides, on net neutrality issues, Google is pitted against the Republican-leaning telephone companies, who seek to extract more money out of Internet users than they can under flat-rate charges. On this issue, I side with the Democrats and applications providers and against the telcos.
