It’s simple – he could not answer the question
October 10, 2008 4:23 am UncategorizedForget fatigue, hearing impairment and language difficulties. I watched the clip. Dion could not answer the question. It was not just easy but predictable. You couldn’t toss a rock in Darcy’s without hitting someone who could scribble a perfectly good answer on a foot-long bar bill. Over at Maclean’s and presumably elsewhere, the story itself is already well on its way to being the story – the local guy should never have run it; Duffy should never have run it; nice people shouldn’t watch it and draw their own conclusions. Coyne admits that the French media would savage an English-speaking politician for the same performance. Just the French media, Andre? We all know what would happen to Harper in the same circumstances. Whining about media bias is unattractive but so is a permanent, institutional bias in favour of one’s opponents. At worst, this incident exposes some cracks in that wall. At best, it will give Mr. Harper some seats.

CTV news is featuring the story, but they only run the first minutes (version) of the interview, so people don’t get the idea of the sheer awfulness of the reply. He just couldn’t reply to a question which was a little different and for which his handlers didn’t prepare him.
Manufacturing jobs are up this month – amazing how our economy and banks aren’t doing so badly, but Harper is being blamed for the spillover of the American mess.

CBC ran more of the clip, included the question at least.
Media trying to save Dion the embarrassment? Like they would EVER do that for Harper.
When he first answered the question, he was going into his programed speech ‘30/50′ about poverty.
That’s why he asked for a restart the first time.
The 2nd and 3rd time, he understood the question, but had no ’scripted answer’ , he drew a blank, and got angry. It was a melt down.
I was disappointed that At Issue was start to finish Harper tear down.
