‘Liberal’ values: not just in Iggy’s ivory tower

The absurd and offensive equation of Canadian societal values with the Liberal party’s agenda reaches all the way down from the presumptive Chief Ideologist to the rank and file of candidates. Witness this exchange between Peterborough Liberal candidate Betsy McGregor and Conservative MP Dean Del Mastro:

At the all-candidates meetings, McGregor talks about good Canadian values and asks: “Who best can give a voice to your values?”

“What does that mean?” says Del Mastro. “That the 36 per cent who supported me don’t have Canadian values?”

To the Liberal mind, it means exactly that. And kudos to Del Mastro for calling out the lovely and intelligent Ms. McGregor on it.

Palin debate strategy

American Politics 4 Comments

A friend suggests that Palin should adopt the following strategy for the debate tonight.

If I were Palin I would hit Biden directly on the issue of foreign policy.  She should say that she is only 44 years old and hasn’t had the opportunity to serve in the Senate since 1972 when she was in 2nd grade.

For the record Biden voted against putting nuclear missiles in Europe in the mid-80s,  voted against funding the Contras, voted for a nuclear freeze, voted against Reagan defense budgets, voted against first Gulf War (the one that took a week and was a defense against an attack on a sovereign country).  That is just the stuff I recall.

She should say that she wasn’t in the Senate then but Biden was and he voted the wrong way.  And then use Biden’s own words against Obama.  Biden will be surprised and get mean and attack her and then game over.

She actually could win this thing because if it is a draw she wins.
