The best take on “Little Mosque on the Prairie”

9:21 am Culture

Mark Steyn has been excoriated by the Usual Suspects™ for allegedly failing to see the humour in the carbuncle of CBC’s crown. So what can they say in reply to this assessment from award-winning actor Maury Chaykin?

“I have a bee in my bonnet about that show,” says Chaykin of Little Mosque. “What’s most annoying is the fact that it’s touted as this huge success. I mean, the title is great, but they failed very badly in delivering a good show. After finally seeing an episode, I was just gobstruck. I thought, I don’t know what I’m watching, I don’t understand what it’s supposed to be; it’s not funny, nor moving, nor touching - nothing. It’s two-dimensional in a way that doesn’t touch anything sensitive, doesn’t touch anything that means anything to anyone. It’s so bizarre.”

No polemic, just an accomplished actor’s take on a supposed situation comedy. Works for me.

I wouldn’t watch that show if it was the only one on TV. Watched 5 minutes of it and switched channels immediately…

I watched one entire episode once. I was so badly done, so boring and sooooooo politically correct I vowed never ever to watch another one. It really buttresses my determination to never waste any time ever again on anything the CBC does on TV or radio or whatever other media they choose.

The CBC wastes $1B per year to produce absolutely nothing of value or interest exempt to the spin doctors and hacks in the NDP/Liberal party.

It is an embarrassment to Canada and if that represents the best of Canadian culture then lets buy more British and American products

That’s 1 billion per year of our tax dollars….which could be put to good use buying additional MRI’s.I have often said the only good serial program on CBC is Coronation Street and I am just waiting for another network to pick that up…but wait, the brains at the Corpse will bring us Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune this Fall…I can hardly wait. Will CBC ratings go up and will the american networks carrying these programs suffer???

The only people who watch that show are leftists who pat themselves on the back for watching such a “progressive” show.

“I could never be a racist! I watch Little Mosque on the Prarie!”

Chaykin is a great actor. If you ever have an opportunity to see “Cold Comfort” co-starring Paul Gross, you should do so.

I will definitely check out Chaykin’s new show this fall.

The most charitable defence of the show I have seen, one which I think came from a Muslim, said it seemed to be aimed at teaching members of that community how to behave properly in a new and unsettling environment. Sadly, the promotional trailers for the show sickened me so badly I can barely force myself to even think about it long enough to finish this po….
