Order of Canada governed by utter hypocrites
July 8, 2008 3:20 pm Canadian PoliticsIn the eyes of Justice McLachlin and her co-ideologues on the nominating committee, “controversy” is a variable absolute:
McGill ethicist refused OC because she was ‘too controversial’

The Order’s receptiveness to new, taboo-breaking social mores was evident well before the Morgentaler appointment. The Order last year approved the candidacy of Brent Hawkes, a Toronto cleric who performed Canada’s first same-sex marriage. Also last year, the Order appointed writer Jane Vance Rule, lauding her specifically for “populating her novels with homosexual as well as heterosexual characters.” And when it honoured Jean Chrétien, the Order put a curious emphasis on his support for same-sex unions.
Few people, even critics of gay rights, made a fuss. I think most Canadians thought the Order was making an effort to reflect a significant current of public opinion. It’s hard to be against broad-mindedness.
Now, however, it suddenly turns out that the Order is not so broad-minded after all. It has refused admission to Margaret Somerville, the McGill University ethicist who is a leading critic of the social views that the Order welcomes.
And what does Ontario’s favourite Catholic schoolboy made good have to say about this? Don’t wait for the translation, Mr. McGuinty!

Isn’t that ironic?

I’ve heard Mr.Hawkes on the John Oakley radio show when he went on a vicious tirade about Christians being mass-murderers and narrow minded bigots that don’t tolerate a diversity of opinions and are quick to judge others.
I merely assumed that Brent was making an Expert’s opinion on ignorance and narrow mindedness , after all , if brent is too dumb to know what a Christian is then it’s pointless to expect anything from him other than his hate-filled
rants against Christ and God.
This is the new canada created by the Catholic Trudeau that supported the Nazis who were also killing his catholic brothers in Europe, but because ww2 wasn’t France’s war he enjoyed the good life in Quebec as a War-Resister .

Finlay says the Order told her it had turned Somerville down because she’s controversial.
That’s hilarious. Morgentaler is many times more controversial.
And Morgentaler was turned down at least twice before, precisely for that reason.
I could make my arguments as to why the relative impacts of their respective works on Canadian society, and their contributions to the betterment of that society, favour Morgentaler over Somerville by a country mile. But that’s not the point here. We have only Finlay’s word for what the Order folks told her. Her nomination was two years ago. Somerville is not in failing health. There are too many confounding variables here to argue double standards.

As with anything else Liberals touch, the Order of Canada is being diminished to a point of irrelevance in their overt efforts to turn it into a statement of Political Correctness approval. Our current GG failed in her duty to serve the Order by allowing the hijacking of its awards committee by those pushing their own agenda. And remember the biggest “pusher” was none other than our Supreme Court Chief Justice. If you believe she pushes her private agenda on the OofC Board but not on the Court itself you are living in a dream world. It is a disgrace but don’t hold you breath waiting for it to change. People of this ideology don’t understand the notion of shame - they are consumed by the ME, ME, ME philiosphy of existence.

Sayeth Dr. Dawg:
“Somerville is not in failing health.”
So the issue is not whether one is ‘controversial’, it’s the closeness of shaking off one’s mortal coil that counts.
Allow an old man his final dream… and our next nightmare.

I just found something interesting on the net from the Calgary Sun in 2006:
“It quotes at length the description of Canadian judges given by Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin in a lecture delivered last November in New Zealand.
When a person is appointed to the bench, explained our chief justice, he or she acquires a unique wisdom and knowledge conferring an ability to determine with certainty how Canadians must live.
Thus the judge must not feel bound by the precise words of the Charter.
Even in the face of a hostile public opinion, the judge must establish “norms” which are “essential to the nation’s history, identity, values, and legal system.”
The judge is able to discern these “norms,” she continued, and confer on them the force of law where necessary.
Only judges know how to accurately interpret these unwritten concepts”
Guess what? Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin was the Chairperson for this contentious OOC.
